CWC to set up ICD at Falta

Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) plans to set up an inland container depot within Falta Special Economic Zone (FSEZ) to ease infrastructure problems faced by exporters.

Manoj Kumar, zonal joint director general of foreign trade, said work would begin as soon as approval of commissioner of customs was received.

The ICD would be within FSEZ. Container leaving the depot would not be subject to further customs formalities. ICD would cater to captive FSEZ cargo. Later, it may be offered for use to outsiders.

"Since the volume of containers generated by FSEZ is not high, CWC may let outsiders to use the ICD through a separate approach," Kumar added.

FSEZ has exported Rs 754 crore worth of good between April 2003 and February 2004. Export from all Indian SEZs combined in that period was Rs 12,157 crore.
