The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today opposed the bail plea of former Commonwealth Games (CWG) Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi's close aide Shekhar M Deorukhkar saying he is an influential person and can tamper with evidence if he is given the relief.
In its reply filed before Special CBI Judge OP Saini, CBI said the probe so far had established Deorukhkar's complicity in the crime.
"His being influential can be judged from the fact that though merely being a Guard in Railways, he got himself appointed as a Director of CWG Organising Committee, that too as OSD to the Chairman," the CBI said in its written reply.
It said there are sufficient material on record which confirms that he had obtained a huge bribe amount from the overlays suppliers.
"Though Deorukhkar was not named as an accused in the FIR, investigation clearly establishes his complicity in the crime," it said.
CBI said the accused could tamper with evidence and could influence the witnesses, if he is released on bail.
