A private firm executive, accused of bribing Commonwealth Games (CWG) Organising Committee officials to bag lucrative contracts for providing logistics to the mega sporting event, was refused bail today by a Delhi court.
The court rejected the bail plea of Comfort Net Traders India's Director Sandeep Wadhwa saying the allegations against him are serious and if released on bail, he may interfere with the investigation.
Wadhwa was arrested on March 7 by the CBI for allegedly paying huge amounts of bribe to various CWG OC officials on behalf of Nussli (Switzerland) Limited.
"Considering the seriousness of the allegations, evidence against the accused on record, investigation is at initial stage and the apprehension that Wadhwa may interfere with investigation, I am not inclined to enlarge the accused on bail," Special CBI Judge OP Saini said.
The court noted "a witness has stated that he had received Rs 20 lakh in bribe from Wadhwa on behalf of M/s Nussli Limited, for releasing the payments".
"The witness also stated that all the four firms named in the FIR including M/s Nussli (Switzerland) Limited had agreed to pay 2.5% of the payments as commission," the court said.
