Dairy science college to come up in Dantiwada

In a bid to promote research and create skilled manpower in dairy and agriculture sector, the state government has decided to set up a college for dairy science and food technology as well as pulses research centre at Dantiwada Agriculture University in Banaskantha district with an investment of Rs. 23 crore.

The Gujarat government today also announced a scheme of Rs 303 crore to tide over the problem of drinking water scarcity in Banaskantha district.

The decision to set up dairy science and food technology college and pulses research center at Dantiwada in Banaskantha district was announced by the Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi at the function organised on the eve of Independence Day at the campus of Dantiwada Agriculture University.

Gujarat chief minister also laid the foundation stone of the college today at Dantiwada.

He said that north Gujarat region is known for castor, cumin seed and pysllium husk and the day will come when this region would also be known for pulses.

He also urged agriculture produce marketing committees, dairies and laboratories to take up the task of soil health testing. He also hinted at the setting up of Kamdhenu University for animal hubsandary in the state.

"Taking the needs of the farmers into consideration, the State government has started taking proactive steps to take Narmada water at the doorsteps of farmers. We are encouraging farmers to adop drip irrigation methods," he said.
