After the high-powered committee meeting in Bangalore chaired by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, district authorities of Mysore have set the ball in motion for the 2009 Dasara.
The high-powered committee has constituted nine committees for organising events for the 10-day celebrations to commence on September 19. Senior officers of the district named to these committees met here and discussed the modalities for making arrangements in the concerned programmes entrusted to them for being organised.
Deputy commissioner and Dasara special officer P Manivannan, who presided, authorised the deputy special officers to constitute 27 sub-committees they have to coordinate while making arrangements. They were told to appoint officers to support them in organising the programmes, for which the state government has released Rs 6 crore this year.
The nine committees indicate the programmes to be organised, more or less on the same as last Dasara.
The police commissioner, who will head the Dasara Procession Committee, will have the responsibility of arranging tableaux and folk dancers’ troupes as well for the 10th day’s procession. Torchlight parade at Banni Mantap grounds, poets’ meet and illumination, which turn Mysore into a city of lights, will be the under the charge of Mysore Urban Development Authority chief.
The police superintendent will take care of sports, wrestling and yoga, while the zilla panchayat chief executive of food festival, rural Dasara and farmers’ Dasara and the Mysore University registrar (examinations), women and children Dasara and youth Dasara.
Air show and hospitality will be the task of the Cauvery irrigation board chief administrative officer, while the zoo authority director that of publicity, films and tourism, the city corporation commissioner of reception committee tasks like invitations, arrangements and cleanliness. Finance, coordination and other general aspects will be under the Special Deputy Commissioner.
Last minute arrangements resulted in wastage of funds and substandard work; preparations two months ahead this year may help in organising 2009 Dasara on a better scale.
