Representatives of trade unions, who participated in a two-day workshop —Trade unions and decent work for domestic workers — organised by the International Labour Organisation here, agreed on a set of recommendations for improving the living and working conditions of domestic workers in India.
The key recommendations include recognising inclusion of domestic workers under social security and welfare boards, fixation of minimum wages, inclusion of conditions of work and standards in the legislative framework and setting up a separate tribunal to address the disputes between the workers and the employers.
According to a release, the workshop witnessed representation from organisations like AITUC, INTUC and Sewa. The unions agreed to take up the issue of domestic workers with the labour and employment ministry. They also agreed to support the awareness-raising exercise through the existing “Your Work is Important” campaign.
