Decide matter in House: CPI(M)

With the UPA-Left committee on the Indo-US nuclear deal heading nowhere, the CPI(M) now wants the matter to be decided on the floor of Parliament.

In the latest editorial of People's Democracy, the party mouthpiece, CPI(M) says, "Let a majority in Parliament decide whether the deal is acceptable to India or not."

This formulation has come after CPI(M) boss Prakash Karat had a series of meetings with the UNPA leaders where he convinced them to support the Left stand.

While the Constitution does not permit ratification of an international agreement in Parliament, the Left is using the next best weapon "" a Sense of the House resolution "" to show the government is in a parliamentary minority on this issue.
