"Both the central and state governments are observing strict fiscal discipline. As a result, the budget deficit was 4.1% of GDP in the fiscal year ended March 31 2005," Chidambaram said.
It was "less than 4.5% estimated by the government in February. I think we can do better than 4.3%. Whether I can do better than 4.1%, I cannot say," the finance minister said while addressing the India Investors Forum here.
