The Delhi government is planning to bring big private milk suppliers in the city under its tax ambit. After bringing private retail chains selling fruits and vegetables under the tax ambit, the government has sent a proposal to Agricultural Produce Marketing Board (APMB) to include companies like Mother Dairy, Gagan, Parag and Paras under the list.A committee of the AMPB had recently coaxed the government to pressurise big milk suppliers to pay cess as per the AMPB Act. According to AMPB chairman Brahm Yadav, this would help keep a tab on prices and supply. The committee is also looking to tax big sweet manufacturers like Haldiram, and feels that they should pay tax on 'khoya' (condensed milk).
