In two judgements, the Delhi High Court today streamlined the use of properties, public and private, to hold social functions. |
The High Court today warned it would issue a writ of "mandamus" invoking its extraordinary powers to dissolve the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) if its directions on unauthorised social functions in farm houses were not executed by the civic body. |
While hearing a contempt petition filed by Bhrastachar Virodhi Sangathan on illegal wedding ceremonies in farm houses, a division bench comprising Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Rekha Sharma said the civic body should know it could be dismissed under Section 490 of the MCD Act for failing to perform its duties properly. |
The court granted two weeks' time to the corporation to file a reply on the complaint that marriages continued to be conducted at the farmhouses despite its earlier orders. |
In another judgement, the High Court today banned organising all social functions, including marriages and parties, in public parks, public roads and streets. While issuing notices to the Delhi government, the MCD, the DDA, the urban development ministry and the police commissioner, a division bench of Justices Jain and Sharma said it would take serious steps if the authorities failed to prevent the unbridled use of loudspeakers or other public address systems at these places because examinations were fast approaching. |
While it posted the matter for further hearing on February 27, it asked the respondents to file their replies within four weeks. |
