Delhi Metro is constructing a hotel in a joint venture with the Tata Group to cash in on the growing demand for room facility for tourists, particularly during next year's Commonwealth Games in the capital.
The six-floor hotel, spread over an area of 29,999 square meter, is proposed to come up at the metro station complex at Sector 21 in Dwarka and will have 400 rooms.
It will be constructed in collaboration with the Tata Group's Indian Hotels Company, a first of its kind from the stable of Delhi Metro, which had been providing shopping spaces to private firms at its stations, a senior official said.
With the State Environment Impact Assessment Committee (SEIAC) giving approval recently for the project, costing Rs 320 crore, the DMRC has expedited construction to complete the hotel before the Games.
However, while clearing the project, the panel has suggested the project proponent ensure adoption of proper mitigation for controlling dust emission during construction. The Metro has proposed a total parking facility for 1,328 vehicles and three bus parking in three-level basements at the site, the official said. So far, the Metro has been providing its land to private companies for constructing malls.
Thousands of tourists, including foreigners, are expected to throng the capital during the mega sporting event creating demand for room accommodation.
