The Dharwad City Rail Users' Forum has urged the South Western Railway authorities to develop the Dharwad railway station on the line of Yashwantpur station.

In a letter to SWR general manager Praveen Kumar, president of the forum Gopal Pande has several demands for passengers from Dharwad without causing any difficulties to the Railways.

The demands include extension of train number Hubli-Bangalore-Hubli Janashatabdi Express upto Dharwad, starting Hubli-Bangalore passenger and Hubli-Guntur passenger from Dharwad, stopping the Vasco-Howrah-Vijayawada express and Yeshwantpur/Nizamuddin Samparka Kranti Express train at Dharwad.

The forum has also demanded that the Mysore-Dharwad-Mysore Express train be extended upto Belgaum to stop the train from occupying a track at the Dharwad railway station for 10-12 hours during day.

Pande, while welcoming the measures to increase facilities at Dharwad railway station, has urged them to ensure the digital boards display the names of the train in short along with the train number and platform number.

Justifying the demands to extend certain trains upto Dharwad and stopping two trains at Dharwad, the forum said the passengers from Dharwad were finding it difficult to reach Hubli railway station and board the trains from there.

Extension of these trains upto Dharwad and stopping Sampark Kranti and Vasco-Vijayawada express trains for a few minutes in Dharwad would help the passengers a great deal without causing any inconvenience to the Railways. It would save the passengers the trouble of reaching Hubli by road.

The forum has pointed out that Sampark Kranti trains pass through Dharwad between 9.30 pm to 10 pm and a stop at Dharwad railway station for few minutes would not cause any problem. The train stops at Davanagere where it reaches at 1.30 am.
