Direct tax collections increased 44.39% to Rs 59,210 crore between April 1 and August 15, 2007 when compared with Rs 41,006 crore during the same period in 2006-07.Corporate tax collections were up 52.25% at Rs 33,164 crore while personal income tax increased 35.57% to Rs 25,989 crore during the period. The continued buoyancy in direct tax collections is a reflection of the robust growth in the economy, better tax compliance and improved tax administration, an official release said.
