The new statute, that will bring foreign workers under the ambit of the country's labour laws, also stipulates that the sponsor provide for the treatment of a worker in case the person falls ill or meets with an accident, the a daily reported.
The law also aims to ensure that workers are paid the agreed remuneration, by making the existence of salary proof mandatory. The sponsor should pay the worker's monthly salary agreed upon by the two sides in Qatari riyals at the end of every month or three days after and the payment should be made through the sponsor's bank account, the daily said, quoting from the new law.
If the sponsor had no bank account there should be a proof that salary was paid in full, it added.
Besides, the law also says that in case of an absconding worker, the sponsor must inform the authorities concerned and take necessary measures within a week, while in case of death of a worker, he will bear the cost of sending the body home.
