The Karnataka government's state-wide initiative to improve the quality of education in government-run schools – “Shalegaagi naavu-neevu” (We-You for Schools) – was launched in Mysore on Thursday.
The month-long drive will create awareness among parents and students on securing quality education in government schools and on the Right to Education.
After its launch, the programme will be monitored till July 31 in all the government primary and secondary schools by the Department of Public Instruction.
“Right from the District in-charge Minister down to the gram panchayat members, comprising all elected representatives, besides officers and education department officials from the level of the deputy director to the group resource personnel will participate in the programme,” Mysore deputy commissioner PS Vastrad said yesterday.
The programme will comprise five stages - on July 5 the 'Shalegaagi Naavu -Neevu' programme and July 6 to July 31 brief assessment of the schools during their working hours.
As many as 120 teams have been formed for school assessment work - 12 for middle schools and 108 for primary schools. From August 1 to September 4, right to education activity will be conducted. After a follow up of the programme in all government schools from August 16 till next year January 15, School Development Monitoring Committee (SDMC) meetings will be convened at the block level. This will continue till January-end, commencing on January 16, 2013.
Interactions with those residing in slums and socially and economically backward areas will be organised to bring them in a procession to the schools. This is to ensure all sections have a stake in the growth of government schools.
