Durgapur plant to up output

After registering a turnover of Rs 784 crores in 2004-05, SAIL's Durgapur Steel Plant now aims to supply 1,20,000 wheels for coaches of Indian Railways and to step up its steel production to three million tonnes by 2012.

"We have earmarked Rs 2,800 crores as part of our corporate plan to augment our steel production to 3 MT from the current 1.86 MT by 2012. We have also planned to supply 1,20,000 forged wheels to Indian Railways by the same year from the current 65,838 wheels,' DSP's officiating Managing Director S K Roongta said.
