Earth, Astronomy Days to be celebrated

The Gujarat Council of Science City (GCSC) will celebrate Earth Day and Astronomy Day from April 22 to 24, at Gujarat Science City, here.

The theme of the Earth Day celebration this year is 'Water for life'.

Millions of people all over the planet will come together to protect water sources, the organisers said here.

The Astronomy Day on April 24 will be a grass-roots movement to share the science of astronomy with the masses with the theme 'Bringing astronomy to the people'.

Poster painting, essay writing, quiz, and skit competitions will be arranged for students, the organisers have said.

In addition, there will be illustrative theme-based poster exhibitions, interactive sessions and other programmes and slide shows. Night sky observation has been planned in association with the Astronomy Club, Ahmedabad, the organisers said.

The celebration also includes an introductive activity on the Venus Transit, which will be witnessed on June 8, 2004, across the country.

School students from class I to class XII can participate in various competitions and win prizes, the organisers said in a release.

The Gujarat Science City strives towards popularisation of science to create a scientific temper in the community, the release said.

It offers informative exhibitions presented in an interactive form. Students can learn and have fun with science and innovation through hands-on experiences in the Hall of Science, large format Imax movies, ride simulator and other educational activities, the release said.
