East Coast Railway (ECoR) net income rose to Rs 8,851.50 crores in 2010-11, up 26 per cent from previous year, supported by infrastructure development at various stations that facilitated higher traffic movement.
During the year, total freight volume jumped to 109 million tonne, up 4.7 per cent from previous year, while passenger volume grew by five per cent.
The operating cost of the railway unit slipped to 42.5 per cent of total revenue, down from 48.25 per cent in 2009-10, according to a ECoR release.
