The Election Commission has asked Jharkhand to lodge an FIR against the legislators who had sought bribe to vote for the Raiya Sabha elections. Taking cognizance of the matter, the EC said that the news channel has shown a few MLAs as saying that on payment they can get their and their colleague’s first and second preference votes.
Jharkhand Speaker C P Singh has said that he will not take any suo motu action against the legislators – three from the Congress, two from the JMM and one from the BJP. The Speaker said that even if the legislators had not taken money and only expressed consent to accept and cast vote, it amounted to compromising with parliamentary ethics and “their action is condemnable”.
He advised the leaders of the respective parties to take action against their legislators and added that the expose brought “shame” to every representative.
It may be mentioned that the sting operation had been carried out in June this year before the Rajya Sabha elections.
