With the deadline for filing expenditure details coming to an end, the Election Commission and the Income Tax department will start scrutinising assets and spendings of candidates filed during and after the Lok Sabha polls.
The Commission has asked all the district returning officers and state Election Commissioners to forward the affidavits of declaration of assets and expenditures during the polls filed by candidates to them, "immediately" after June 16, the last date for filing expenditure details.
"All the returning officers and state election commissioners have been asked to send the details immediately after June 16. The Commission will then dispatch these affidavits to the I-T department," an Election Commission (EC) official said.
I-T department authorities said that while an internal communication has been dispatched to all Chief Commissioners of Income-Tax (CCITs), the Central Board of Direct Taxes will also issue a notification in this regard.
"Officers from different wings of the department would start the scrutiny which will be sent to respective assessing officers to their areas," an I-T official said.
