In a bid to strengthen its social enterprise development in the country, the Government of Mauritius has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ahmedabad-based Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI).
A three-member delegation, led by Sheilabai Bappoo, minister of social security, national solidarity and reforms institutions, Government of Mauritius was on a two-day visit to EDI campus, to seek its co-operation in strengthening NGOs, institutionalising NGO management programme, training and capacity building of faculty members, NGO professionals, government officials dealing with NGOs and social enterprise development in Mauritius. The minister also requested EDI to extend its expertise in developing a National NGO Policy for the country.
"We have signed a formal memorandum of understanding with the EDI," said Bappoo. To begin with, the Government of Mauritius is planning to organise a National Conference on Social Entrepreneurship. The government is also mulling with an idea of setting up an Entrepreneurship Development Centre in Mauritius with the help of EDI. Similarly, a seven-member delegation, led by Senator Fazal Karim, minister for science, technology and tertiary education, Republic of Trinidad & Tobago also visited EDI on Wednesday.
Considering Trinidad’s emphasis on entrepreneurship development, the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago explored the possibilities of introducing entrepreneurship education in the country and invited EDI to work in this direction.
