EGoM on telecom to discuss status of court cases on Thursday

Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal has earlier said that the auction is planned to start from March 11 onwards.

The Empowered Group of Ministers on telecom, headed by Finance Minister P Chidambaram, is scheduled to meet tomorrow and likely to discuss the status of court cases that can impact spectrum auction process.

"(EGoM) to discuss status of court cases," a source told PTI.

The Supreme Court will hear 2G spectrum case on February 4 which may have impact on auction proceedings and there are also chances of litigation against the government decision on slashing spectrum price for the second round of auction, sources said.

The DoT has already issued the guidelines for the second round of spectrum auction which is expected to fetch around Rs 45,000 crore to exchequer from airwaves sale.

The guidelines, however, did not mention about the timeline for starting auction and related dates.

The EGoM is also likely to discuss fees that is to paid to auctioneer, Times Internet with E-Procurement, for the next round of auction, sources added.
