Environment Minister Anil Madhav Dave today stressed that interests of developing countries should be taken on board in the development of the global market-based measures for the international civil aviation sector.

The minister's comment came during a meeting with Council of International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) President Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu to discuss the global market-based measures in context of emissions from the civil aviation sector.

"The interests of poor, developing countries should be taken on board in the development of the global market-based measures," an official release quoting Dave said.

Dave said that the measures must follow the "principles of Common But Differentiated Responsibilities - Respective Capabilities (CBDR-RC)".

Moreover, he said in view of the universal consensus achieved under the Paris Agreement, all measures to address the greenhouse gases must follow the mandate and framework emanating from it.

The ICAO President lauded India's constructive role during CoP-21 at Paris and appreciated the ambition displayed in India's climate actions under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the release said.

Environment Secretary Ajay Narayan Jha and ICAO Regional Director Arun Mishra, among others, were also present at the meeting.
