Vadodara's small scale engineering units can expect to get a boost from the upcoming Machtech 2010, an industrial exhibition that is expected to get over 250 small scale units to interact with the big guns in the business.

"We are expecting to double the net business generation from the upcoming exhibition to around Rs100 crore this time", claimed K Goyal, managing director of KMG Business Technology, that is co-organising the event with The Federation of Small Scale Industries (FSSI). Goyal added that Vadodara has over 14,000 small scale engineering and machine tools units and less than five per cent of these would be medium sized enterprises.

These units work in the areas of machine tools, materials handling equipment, chemical and pharmaceutical equipment, plastic processing machines, automation among others. Industry leaders like Larsen and Toubro (L&T), Alstom, Areva Transmission & Distribution, Bombardier Transportation have operations in the city.

"Areva has set up a Rs 600 crore transformer manufacturing plant here recently, while Bombardier manufactures metro coaches. Machtech 2010 will act as a gateway for the small & medium enterprises(SMEs) in the area to interact with these giants.", Goyal said.

Around 10 large-scale industry units would be present at Machtech 2010 that is slated to start on February 4 next year for the vendor development programme during the event. Last year's event had generated nearly Rs 50 crore of business.
