The first grain spirit (ethanol) plants in Madhya Pradesh, proposed by Mumbai-based Dollex Industries, are facing rough weather. The slow process of land acquisition has delayed the company's projects.

The company has proposed setting up two sugar plants "" in Kasarwadi in Jhabua district and Tendukheda in Narsinghpur district "" with an investment of Rs 137 crore in each, with byproducts like ethanol and 42 Mw.

The company signed a deal with the state government on May 26 last year on the projects.

"The slow process of clearance in land acquisition is delaying our projects," a company source told Business Standard, adding, "the plants will create direct and indirect jobs for 10,000 families".

As many as 26 companies had signed deals with the state government in an "Agri Business Meet" organised last year on May 25-26. However, few have been given land, water and environment related clearances.

The company had asked for 200 acres for each of its units. In each case the revenue department has to transfer land to the department of industry, which authorises its arm the Madhya Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation to allot land to the company on a 'no charge' basis or on the basis of commercial rates, depending on the size of the investment.

"The revenue department has not forwarded its file to department of industry so far. We will be able to come up with our plants in a year if land is made available to us," the source further said.

With a crushing capacity of 2,500 tonnes per day, the plants will have new technology and will run for 11 months in a year.

Speaking to Business Standard, Chief Secretary Rakesh Sahni said: "The investors should directly come to the Project Clearance and Implementation Board through the MP Trade and Investment Facilitation Corporation (MPTRIFAC) to get their land issues sorted out in an instant. Normally investors file applications to departments directly and demands huge chunks of land after signing deals."

However, the company has already applied for land through MPTRIFAC.
