Stating that educational institutions should ensure quality of education, University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof Ved Prakash today said that every institution must be a place of excellence.
"Every single institution must be a place of excellence," Prakash told reporters here.
Emphasising that quality of education should not be compromised, Prakash said: "If the children are not able to pass with 33 or 45% marks, it means the quality of education in the institution is pretty bad. It may not have adequate infrastructure. It may not be having qualified teachers and such institutions should not be allowed to be in the business."
The government has taken very proactive measures for the purpose of ensuring the quality of education, so that the children are not cheated, Prakash said.
Higher education must be made available to the children at an affordable cost, he said, adding "if the child is not able to cope up with the existing institution fees, it must be the responsibility of the state government to see that he is not denied access to higher education for want of money".
