The expert committee on Exim Policy has suggested that the government allocate 1 per cent of the annual export revenue or over Rs 2,000 crore as assistance to remove bottlenecks in marketing, transport, storage and quality improvement.
The committee, headed by former commerce secretary P P Prabhu, has also suggested that the assistance to the centrally sponsored Export Infrastructure Scheme be enhanced by two-and-a-half times from Rs 400 crore to Rs 1,000 crore a year, from the next fiscal.
Further, the assistance for the market access initiative should also be increased from the proposed Rs 50 crore during the next financial year to Rs 400 crore-Rs 500 crore a year during the Tenth Plan period, the committee, which was set up to prepare a framework for the 2002-07 Exim Policy, said.

In order to make the scheme more efficient, the expert committee has suggested that along with the export promotion councils, specific industry associations should also be involved.
The government should provide a sum equal to 1 per cent of the previous year
