The government has constituted an expert committee headed by RA Mashelkar, director-general of CSIR, to recommend the auto fuel policy for the country with specific reference to major cities and devise a roadmap for its implementation.
The committee will take into account the vehicular emission norms recommended by the inter-ministerial task force, an official press release issued by the petroleum ministry said.
The committee will also consider the ongoing work on enthanol blending of gasoline and the use of bio fuels in transportation by the groups set up by the petroleum ministry and the non-conventional energy sources ministry, the release said.

The terms of reference of the committee include availability and logistics of fuel supplies; processing economics of auto fuels; and possibilities of multi-fuel use in different categories.
The other members of the committee, which will submit its interim report within three months and the final report within six months, are: DV Singh, vice-chancellor of Roorkee University, R Natarajan, director IIT, DK Biswas, chairman CPCB, K P Niyati, CII, S Singhal, director Indian Institute of Petroleum, OP Mathur, professor NIPFP, RP Shukla, professor IIM, and NR Krishnan, former secretary in the environment ministry.
