A weigh bridge will be set up between Shiroor and Byndoor and the Exporters' Forum has taken up the job of constructing the bridge. Work on this will start before November 15.

The decision was taken at a meeting convened on Wednesday by Udupi deputy commissioner T Shyam Bhat.

Among those present were people's representatives including Brahmavar MLA Jayaprakash Hegde and Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat, members of the Exporters Forum, regional transport officer of Udupi Omkareshwari and superintendent of police S Murugan

The bridge will allow for weighing of trucks loaded with iron ore fines before they reach Mangalore. The deadline for completion of the bridge is January 31, 2005. Based on the promise, the Save National Highways and Bridges Committee has called off its hunger strike.

The location for the bridge will be decided by the RTO, Byndoor circle inspector and representatives of the Exporters Forum by November 5.
