While the all India exports figures have declined, Chennai has registered an 11 per cent increase in exports to Rs 30,000 crore quarter on quarter. This was driven by the automobile sector.
Stating this, Mala Srivatsav, chief commissioner of customs, Chennai, said the figure had increased from Rs 27,000 crore to Rs 30,000 crore quarter on quarter.
Talking at an open house, organised by FIEO and CII here on Sunday, she said the main contributor was automobile the industry. Besides traditional markets and diversification to new markets like Sri Lanka and South Africa had helped.
The growth also came on the back of increase in duty drawback, which rose to Rs 700 crore from Rs 400 crore, quarter on quarter.
