Agreements in respect of 9 power projects spanning across power generation, transmission and distribution were signed in the entire year, according to the statement.
This amounts to a growth of 175 percent in 2007-08 as against agreements for 4 power projects with aggregate external assistance of Rs 3,100 crore in the previous year.
The major projects sanctioned during the period with "external" assistance include projects by power utilities like Powergrid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) and state entities like Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company Ltd. (MPPTCL).
The statement also mentioned that during the financial year period, the utilisation of external assistance in 23 power projects in central and state sectors was Rs 2830.80 crore which is about 18 percent higher than the utilisation of Rs 2408.15 crore in these projects during 2006-07.
