More than 50,000 litres of sugarcane juice was disposed off in the fields and drains as the sugar factory set up by the Chhattisgarh government in Sarguja region could not resume production.
"The sugar factory set up by the state government (last year) has been frequently developing breakdown that has severely affected the production", senior Congress member Dharamjit Singh today raised the issue in the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly. Even when the cooperative minister (Nankiram Kanwar) visited the plant last month, it was closed for production, he added.
The Congress member said about 50,000 litres of sugarcane juice that was extracted from sugarcane in the factory was disposed off in the fields and drains as it could not be used following breakdown in the facility. Singh said the factory management had failed to utilize the resources.
"The state government would examine the matter (of disposing cane juice in fields and drains)", Parliamentary Secretary Vijay Baghel announced in the House. He said efforts were on to propel the farmers to take sugarcane crop in the region that could be used in the factory.
