The PFBR has been designed by the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) and is being constructed by Bharatiya Nabhikiya Vidyut Nigam Limited (Bhavini), a public sector company set up in October 2003 for construction, commissioning and operation of PFBR.
The reactor is being constructed at a cost of Rs 3,492 crore. It is expected to commence operations by September 2010, with commercial operations expected six months later.
The PFBR is expected to generate employment opportunities for over 3,000, according to sources.
