Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) made a net investment of over Rs 1.42 lakh crore in the country in the past fiscal,the Rajya Sabha was informed today.
Reliance Industries' shares attracted the highest net FII investment of Rs 8,331 crore,minister of state for finance Namo Narain Meena told the Upper House in a written reply.
FIIs made gross purchases of over Rs 8.46 lakh crore during 2009-10 and made gross sales of Rs 7.03 lakh crore. Of the net investment (equity and debt) of over Rs 1.42 lakh crore, scrips attracted net inflow of Rs 1.10 lakh crore.
More than half the Rs 1.10-lakh crore net investment was garnered by 20 companies, he added.
Besides Reliance, some of the other companies that attracted large FII inflows were Hindalco Industries (Rs 4,933 crore); UTI Bank (Rs 4,431 crore), Unitech (Rs 3,899 crore); Sterlite Industries (Rs 3,764 crore) and Tisco (Rs 3,633 crore).
