The maiden flight to take off from the new airport will be IC-957, an Airbus A320 with 144 passengers on board.
"It is one of the most popular flights among international passengers as it connects the west coast of America, Australia and Japan," sources said. However, landing of flights at the airport will be allowed after 8 pm on May 22.
Accordingly, all passengers taking late evening flights to Bangalore from different parts of the country will land at the new airport.
The greenfield airport was all set to be launched on March 28. However, it was postponed to May 11.
But as avionics-related infrastructure was yet to be installed and assembly elections are underway in the state, it was decided to defer the launch till the end of May.

However, with the Election Commission stating that the launch would not amount to a violation of the model code of conduct, the promoters of the airport project decided to throw open the airport to commercial use on May 22.
The Airliner Operators Committee (AOC) has communicated to all its members about the Union civil aviation ministry's notification which allows flight operations at the new airport from the evening of May 22, a spokesperson of a leading airliner said.
The new airport has received necessary clearances from all agencies including the director general of civil aviation (DGCA) and about 300 Airports Authority of India (AAI) staff have already moved into the new airport as part of the familiarisation drive, sources said.
