Fish production in the mineral-rich Chhattisgarh had registered a growth of more than 130 per cent over a period of a decade.

"In the year 2004-05, fishermen in the state produced 120,000 metric tonnes of fish that went up to 284,000 metric tonnes in 2013-14," officials in the fisheries department said. In all, about 2 million metric tonnes of fish had been produced in Chhattisgarh in last 10 years, the officials added.

With the increase in the production, Chhattisgarh had now found a place in the list of top six states in the country for fish production. "The state government encouraged the production of fish by giving numerous incentives to the fishermen and it had brought the required change, the officials added.

The state government had covered about 94 per cent of the available water resources area for fish cultivation.
