After banks, it is now the turn of the post offices across the country to go for core banking solutions (CBS). Around 100 post offices throughout the country including five in Orissa will be brought under the CBS in the first phase of the project which is expected to start by the end of the current year.
The head post offices in the state which are to be brought under CBS in the first phase are Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, Sambalpur, Cuttack and Rourkela.
In the second phase, the CBS services would be extended to the head post offices of Koraput, Phulabani, Puri, Baripada and Jharsuguda while the head post offices in Paralakhemundi and Bhawanipatna would migrate to CBS platform in the third phase.
“The work on networking and computerization of the postal savings bank accounts, small savings certificates and other documents is being carried out by a private agency. The work is making good progress and is expected to be completed in the next two months”, said a senior officer of the Orissa circle of the Department of Posts (DoP).
The secretary of DoP recently reviewed the progress of the networking work in the Bhubaneswar head post office and expressed satisfaction over the progress of the work, he added.Out of the total of 8162 post offices in the state, there are 35 head post offices and 1,122 sub post offices.
All the post offices in the state are to be brought under CBS in the next two years.
