The Joint Plant Committee of the steel ministry has estimated that the growth in demand for steel in 2003-04 will remain flat at 6 per cent. However, the growth in the current financial year will be driven by domestic demand rather than the export market.
Industry experts said in 2002-03, growth came primarily from exports, which saw a 35 per cent jump.
