A significant decrease in flood discharge from Prakasam Barrage has helped people along river Krishna breathe easy but the inundation caused by a major breach in the right embankment in Guntur district has left many villages and Repalle town under water.

From over 10 lakh cusecs yesterday morning, flood discharge at Prakasam Barrage dropped to about 7.64 lakh cusecs today, with water level falling by over four feet to 17.5 ft. The outflow from Nagarjuna Sagar dam too has fallen to just 5.81 lakh cusecs while at Srisailam the discharge was 6.80 lakh cusecs, irrigation authorities said.

Traffic on the Vijayawada-Hyderabad stretch of the national highway was restored today after the flood water started receding. Drinking water supply has also been restored in Vijayawada city as the head water works started functioning again after remaining water-logged for over three days.

More than 20 villages along the right embankment of river Krishna continued to remain marooned as the flood water gushed in through the breach that occurred at Oleru yesterday.
