Detection of swine flu cases in National Institute of Technology (NIT) campus has triggerred panic among students and the staff, while two more students with flu symptoms were hospitalised.

A medical camp was opened today at NIT dispensary premises for examining students, employees and their family members residing in the campus with even minor symptoms of the flu, NIT Director Sunit Sarangi said.

Classes, however, are continuing as usual, he said.

A major awareness campaign was launched in the campus using banners asking the students not to be scared. Adequate preventive measures have been taken soon after one of the students was tested positive, he said.

Meanwhile, two more NIT students were admitted to Ispat General Hospital (IGH) yesterday with flu symptoms. Their swab and blood samples will be sent to Kolkata for test, hospital sources said.

Condition of the affected student, kept in isolation in the NIT Guest House, was examined by doctors this morning. He is stable.

Three other students who frequently came in contact with the affected student after his discharge from IGH on August 14 were also quarantined in the guest house for observation. Doctors found them stable with no symptom of H1N1 virus, the sources said.
