Commerce and Industry Minister Arun Jaitley will lead the Indian delegation for the World Economic Forum meet in Davos, Switzerland instead of Finance Minister Jaswant Singh. In a communication to Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the finance ministry has said Jaswant Singh will not be able to attend the meet to be held from the 21st to the 25th of this month due to 'pressing official work'. |
The delegation will also include Finance Secretary DC Gupta and Chief Economic Advisor Ashok Lahiri. |
The agenda for the Davos meeting this time focuses on issues such as global security, promoting global growth, managing new risks, building corporate resilience, spurring innovation and reducing inequity. |
The programme, titled 'Partnering for Security and Prosperity', also highlights the crucial role business leaders can play in forging new partnerships to make the world safer and more prosperous. |
The WEF meet is a grouping of global corporates, academics, governments, international organisations, labour leaders, media, non-governmental organisations and religious leaders who get together to identify strategic issues and to provide a platform for decision-makers to effect constructive change. |
The forum is funded by the membership fees from 1,000 leading global companies. |
