In a first of its kind method, the state Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) used sweat analysis which helped investigators in the 26/11 terror attack case to ascertain that the articles seized from the fishing trawler M V Kuber belonged to the terrorists.
"In sweat analysis or Touch DNA, we match the sweat of a victim or the accused with the clothes or other goods seized from the crime scene. The sweat analysis will help ascertain the identity of the person," FSL Director M V Garad said.
He said the samples taken from the seized articles from Kuber matched with the samples taken from the four slain terrorists Abu Shoib, Abu Ali, Abdul Rehman Bada and Abu Umed.
"Around 16 clothes were sent to the FSL. Experts then took samples of the sweat from the seized clothes, which matched with the sweat of the nine slain terrorists and lone surviving gunman Mohammad Ajmal Kasab," Garad said.
The analysis confirmed that one of the jackets seized from Kuber belonged to Kasab.
"In general, the sweat analysis will be helpful in detection of murder, rape and molestation cases," Garad added.
