Stating that the IAEA safeguards does not provide any price protection, he said, "Once the costly nuclear power plants find their way to India making the country compulsorily dependant on foreign fuel, the suppliers of Uranium 238 would definitely play the tricks to raise the supply price the same way petroleum crude suppliers are now doing."
The FOSET, he said, strongly felt that the deal had no contribution in solving the energy crisis, adding "as per revised plan of the government, even with the deal and addition of 40,000 MW plants, the percentage of nuclear power would rise to 8 per cent only, which is practically no substitution at all."
Describing the Indo-US nuclear pact as a "backdoor deal" having no sanction of the people, the FOSET slammed the UPA government for bypassing concerns of science and technology personnel.
"This further strengthens the suspicion that the deal is not in the interest of self-reliance in science and technology," he said.
