Though the police did not impose curfew in the area, most shops and establishments in Shah Alam, Behrampura, Danilimda and surrounding areas downed their shutters for the day.

Four persons, including a police official, were injured in the fresh communal flare up as mobs resorted to heavy stone pelting on each other and on security forces.

The situation was brought under control by the police within hours.

Preliminary reports suggest that an altercation between members of two communities sparked off the violence in the wee hours.

Two persons were injured when they were attacked with sharp-edged weapons, the police said.

The remaining two, including a police inspector, were wounded in heavy-stone throwing by members of the two communities.

The police inspector was discharged from the hospital after being given first aid, while the remaining three have been admitted to the L G Hospital.

The exact cause of violence would be known only after recording statements of the injured, police said.

Less than a week ago, three persons had been killed and over 40 injured in a communal clash in Viramgam town, about 70 kms from Ahmedabad.

Curfew had to be imposed in the town after members of two communities clashed and even resorted to private firing (firing by individuals).

The clash took place after a cricket ball was hit into a temple while members of a community were playing at a ground.

The state had witnessed wide-spread riots after the Sabarmati Express carnage in Godhra in 2002.
