Fraudulent IGST claims worth Rs 1,875 crore by risky exporters identified

These people are untraceable and the list includes seven 'star' exporters, government sources said

A total of 1,377 exporters have fraudulently claimed Rs 1,875 crore of refunds under integrated goods and services tax (IGST) and are untraceable at their places of business. 

According to government sources, these “risky” exporters include seven “star” traders. 

Exporters are identified as “risky” on the basis of specific risk indicators based on customs, GST, income tax and data from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). 

In addition, adverse reports have also been received on three “star” exporters.


These ten star exporters have claimed IGST refund amounting to Rs 28.9 crore deceitfully, the sources said.

They added that as of date, 7,516 exporters are in the risky exporter list. Of them, IGST refund , drawback worth Rs 1,363 crore is suspended in respect of 2,830 risky exporters. Drawback refers to refund of duties on goods used for making goods which are exported. 

Besides, adverse reports have been received for 2,197 risky exporters.

According to sources, the field formations of the CBIC have detected offence cases amounting to Rs 115 crore against identified risky exporters.

Rs 71K-cr refunds issued to 2.1 mn

The Income Tax  (I-T) Department has issued refunds worth Rs 71,229 crore to over 2.1 million taxpayers between April 8 and July 11. This includes personal income tax refunds of Rs 24,603 crore issued to 1.9 million individuals and corporation tax refunds amounting to Rs 46,626 crore to over 145,000 taxpayers. PTI
