A high-ranking functionary of Rashtriya Nava Nirmana Vedike told Business Standard The ground work for the creation of a confederation of political parties has already been done and the Progressive Front may take shape before the crucial UP assembly polls.
Hegde is expected to undertake an extensive tour of northern and western states from today.
Confirming the move to create the Progressive Front, D S Srikantamurthy a Rashtriya Nava Nirvana spokesman said the new front may be in place before UP Assembly polls in October.
Hegde and his partymen have already completed the first round of talks with different regional party leadership on the scope and shape of the new front.
Hegde is expected to meet Laxmi Parvathi in Hyderabad within the next few days. From there on, he will also go to Uttar Pradesh to firm his party's participation with UP Janata Dal led by Ram Asreya Verma.
In Delhi, he is expected to meet Samata Party leader George Fernandes and former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar.

Though Chadrashekhar is unlikely to join forces with the proposed front, sources close to Hegde maintain his influence over regional leaders may help to woo them over to Progressive Front.
We are sure to rope in most of those leaders from the erstwhile Congress (O) and socialist groups to be part of the Progressive Front, said Srikantamurthy. We expect a sort of political polarisation sooner or later and readying the platform in a true federal spirit will be the beginning for such a process.
He said Mufti Mohammed Sayeed's exit from the Janata Dal and growing disillusionment among V P Singh followers will effect United Front's performance in UP polls.
This outcome has led several UF parties to replan their strategies and creation of Progressive Front would provide them an opportunity.
