In the backdrop of the petrol price rise and the widespread demand for its rollback, Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Saturday said his government would soon take a decision on reducing its burden on the common man.

He said he would hold discussions with state Finance Minister K M Mani on reducing the impact of the rise on the people. "I have not met the finance minister. I will discuss, wait for five more hours," he said.

The state finance minister had yesterday said the practice of increasing prices to compensate their losses should be re-examined. "It is not good for the country and also for the state," he said.

The Kerala Motor Workers Coordination Committee had given a call for a 12-hour strike on September 19 to protest the price rise.
