BJP national president Nitin Gadkari today lashed out at the Congress led UPA government at the Centre, blaming it for farmers' suicides across the country.
The BJP president also did not spare the BJD government in Orissa and stated that the state government was not far behind the Centre in corruption.
Addressing a massive rally here, Gadkari said, “Thousands of farmers have committed suicide due to poor economic policies of the Congress led government. The Congress party has never been serious about the problems of the poor and peasants in the country. After ruling the country for the most number of years since independence, the Congress leaders and workers have become richer and not the poor common man.”
The rally was a part of the nationwide campaign against corruption launched by BJP in Delhi earlier this month.
Blaming the UPA government for the increasing plight of the poor and the farmers, he said, "The government has Rs 70,000 crore to buy aeroplanes, but has no money to prevent farmers' suicides.”Referring to various scams during the UPA rule, including those involving 2G spectrum, Commonwealth Games and Adarsh housing society, Gadkari said the year 1947 was known for India's independence, but 2010 will be known for scams.
