GCCI seeks lifting of power cut to industries

 According to GCCI, the power cut has dealt a blow to the industries which are recovering from a recession.

 The Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB) has imposed a 20 per cent power cut to high tension industrial units with continuous processing in all three shifts with effect from November 19.

 Also, non-continuous processing industrial units have been forced to observe an additional holiday during the week on account of the staggering supply.

 GCCI president Shreyas Pandya, while expressing concern over the gradual reduction in power production by the GEB in the recent past, said while the GEB has put forth a petition before the Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission for an increase in electricity rates, it is also essential for it to provide quality and regular power supply.

 But under present circumstances, these demands are not being met.

 Pandya said there has also been instances of changes in the frequency of power supply, load shedding, tripping and frequent disruption in power supply.

 These instances, the GCCI president said, led to the burning of electricity motors, transformers and other electric installations. Consumers have suffered heavy damages because of this, he said.
