GCMMF election for chairmanship, board membership on April 26

The much awaited election date to elect the new chairman for India's largest cooperative body, Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), has been declared by the district collector of Anand on Monday. The election will be held out of its 12 board members.
 
After the recent exit of Verghese Kurien from the chairmanship of GCMMF, the district collector issued a notification at Anand declaring the date of GCMMF's election to be held on April 26, 2006.
 
Talking to Business Standard, district collector D G Jhalawadia said, "The GCMMF election will be held at 11am on April 26."
 
When asked about his role in the election he said, "I will only conduct the election."
 
According to sources in GCMMF, till date, there is no nomination filed by any member of the board for chairman's position.
 
The members to remain present on the election day will include all the 12 chairman of the district dairy cooperatives, managing director of GCMMF B M Vyas and the registrar of the co-operative society.
 
Ramsinh Parmar, chairman of Kaira District Milk Producers' Union and the front runner for the chairmanship of GCMMF, said, "We will hold an all board member meeting to elect a candidate for the chairmanship.But if there are multiple candidates then there will be voting on April 26."
 
He further said, "We will discuss and fix a date to hold a meeting of all board member prior to the election date."
 
When asked about his candidature for the forth coming GCMMF election, he denied to comment.
 
The election is been held exactly after one month after Verghese Kurien resigned from the chairmanship of GCMMF.
 
The GCMMF board of directors had accepted the resignation of Kurien in a board meeting held on March 24.
